Presentation Reflection

First I'll list the things I did not do well.
For the delivery, I said "umm" and "and" many times. I also, often glanced up and touched my mask. I also clasped my hands a lot which was not very good since I need to be more open to the audience. Another thing was that I looked at the screen a few times even though the slide is not for me but for the audience. A really small thing that I noticed was when I talked about Ollie being trapped in a cramped bowl, I gestured a big bowl. This didn't match what I wanted to say so I needed to fix that.
For the content of the presentation, I said two things in the wrong way. One was when I talked about the author's job, and another was when I said the one last thing. For the one last thing I forgot what to say so I had a moment of silence and a moment of "umms". I also thought that my one last thing was too long. I need to make it more short and powerful so that the audience won't get bored.
For the slides, my conclusion slide need to be modified. The image for the conclusion slide needed to be more connected to what I was saying. Also, I thought that putting keywords of the conclusion would have made the slide more professional. For the outline slide, by looking at my other classmate's slide, I thought I needed to make it more visual. I only had words in it and most of my classmates used images. However, I thought that using images would spoil my presentation so I need to consider this point more. Another problem was my reference slides. The font for my links were kind of small for the audience so I need to make it more bigger.
To improve my presentation I need to work on these points. For most of my problems I can fix it by practicing more and having more confidence for my presentation. I especially thought that I need to practice presenting standing up. I found out that when I present standing up it makes me more nervous so I need to practice more in the same situation as the actual presentation. For the slides I just need to fix it.

9/30 Reflection

Today Mr. Paterson introduces us to a tool that shows us if our choices of color are color-blind friendly. I never thought of the color choices that deeply. I knew that some combinations of colors are hard to see but just for normal people. When we checked our site, there wasn’t that much to fix but I learned that there are choices that normal people can’t notice.  Today the class was supposed to start the presentations but we were given more time. I hope that we can do a better presentation than the last one.

Today in class, we were introduced to the world-systems theory. This theory was developed by Immanuel Wallerstein. Mr. Paterson showed us a graph with Kondratiev waves, when the graph goes up the monopoly of the technology and when it goes down the monopoly ends. This suggests that the world is divided into 3 countries, ①core countries, ②semi-periphery countries, and ③periphery countries. It argues that technology gets passed down through generations; rich countries get to use the new high-tech stuff first and when they are done with it, the poorer countries get to use it, when it's not high-tech anymore. The richer countries don't like it when other countries infringe on their monopoly and they try to come into the "core countries". They don't like sharing so it's very rare for semi-periphery countries to bump up to the core countries. One example was when the US was developing rapidly and becoming a bigger country, Britain, France, and Spain fought in th...

Today Mr. Paterson told us about the compare and contrast essay paper that we are going to turn in for this semester. When I was first informed that we didn't need to read our book like we did last semester for the first time I was very relieved. When I read books for assignments I have to constantly leave my antenna out on things like symbolism, tone, the author's thoughts, etc and it doesn't let me enjoy the book. The book becomes a pain when I have to think constantly about something else than the plot itself. I'm also relieved that we won't need a bibliography in this essay. This would save me time since I won't need to put articles from google scholar that I used hours to find. We just had a research assignment, and f inding reliable sources are very difficult. But since I had Zotero, it saves me a lot of time compared to the students who don't have it.      We decided to film our video this weekend. I hope we get enough footage to make the video...
