11/19 Reflection

Today, we mainly went over the conclusion paragraph.
First, Mr.Paterson briefly ran through the introduction. And he told us that we can break the rule of three anytime if we have a good reason. I think that writing in a specific format is important but having strict rules won’t make our essays interesting so having able to break these rules is very important. 
Then, Mr. Paterson talked about the conclusion. The summary must include one thing from each section, and we must choose the best convincing powerful ones from it. So we each chose from the sections we each wrote, and paraphrase repeated the information. We should be taking the information and make it into a piece of relevant important information for the reader. The limitation should be 1 to 3 sentences.

When Mr. Paterson told us that the conclusion is the most difficult section to write, I totally agreed with it. It took us lots of time to discuss what to and how to write. Making one paragraph with the whole team is not very efficient. However, I think that by doing it this way, we can unlock new perspectives from teammates and we can make a conclusion that has deeper thoughts.

Today Mr. Paterson introduces us to a tool that shows us if our choices of color are color-blind friendly. I never thought of the color choices that deeply. I knew that some combinations of colors are hard to see but just for normal people. When we checked our site, there wasn’t that much to fix but I learned that there are choices that normal people can’t notice.  Today the class was supposed to start the presentations but we were given more time. I hope that we can do a better presentation than the last one.

    Today in class, we were introduced to the world-systems theory. This theory was developed by Immanuel Wallerstein. Mr. Paterson showed us a graph with Kondratiev waves, when the graph goes up the monopoly of the technology and when it goes down the monopoly ends. This suggests that the world is divided into 3 countries, ①core countries, ②semi-periphery countries, and ③periphery countries. It argues that technology gets passed down through generations; rich countries get to use the new high-tech stuff first and when they are done with it, the poorer countries get to use it, when it's not high-tech anymore. The richer countries don't like it when other countries infringe on their monopoly and they try to come into the "core countries". They don't like sharing so it's very rare for semi-periphery countries to bump up to the core countries.       Today Mr. Paterson told us about the compare and contrast essay paper that we are going to turn in for this semester. When I was first informed that we didn't need to read our book like we did last semester for the first time I was very relieved. When I read books for assignments I have to constantly leave my antenna out on things like symbolism, tone, the author's thoughts, etc and it doesn't let me enjoy the book. The book becomes a pain when I have to think constantly about something else than the plot itself. I'm also relieved that we won't need a bibliography in this essay. This would save me time since I won't need to put articles from google scholar that I used hours to find. We just had a research assignment, and f inding reliable sources are very difficult. But since I had Zotero, it saves me a lot of time compared to the students who don't have it.      We decided to film our video this weekend. I hope we get enough footage to make the video...
