First Semester Reflection

In this semester we learned about many things. We first did a speech as an introduction, which was about our selves. Then we learned about the basics of Google. We were taught how to use Blogger and Feedly to write a reflective blog. Then we were told to give a presentation on what we can improve in this school. To do this presentation we were taught the basics of presentations. We saw Mr. Paterson’s model presentation and we watched videos of the rules of presenting. They taught us what we should include and not include in our slides. How we should deliver our presentations and much more. Mr. Paterson gave us many tools that we can use to make our presentation and our work for it better and more efficient.
 When we introduced our selves with a speech, I was very nervous because I don't like talking in front of people. I used "like" a lot, I said "umm"s. My speech was terrible. Then when we were introduced to Google, I was surprised. I've been using google for a long time now so I thought I knew a lot but Mr. Paterson taught us a variety of things that I didn't know and were very useful. 
 I think Blogger is very useful. I had never written a blog before and I thought that writing reflective blogs would improve many skills including writing skills that I want to improve. 
 Before Mr. Paterson taught us the way of presenting, I never knew that presenting was so hard. I realized that my presentations were not very good. The credibility, the high-quality slides, not putting bullet points, he taught us many things that I didn't know. I thought that CC search is one of the most useful things that Mr. Paterson taught us. Pixabay has high-quality images and the style of the pictures are really good, and we don't have to put the URL nor the photographer. This is very helpful because it would save time and effort.
 When we did the presentation in front of the class, I screwed up. I made many mistakes that Mr. Paterson already covered. I thought that we should have done more practice. When I got feedback from Mr. Paterson, I was looking forward to presenting again fixing the things that I couldn't do. However, I think that I have grown since the first speech on the second day of class. I can deliver better now and I have more confidence in my speaking(I think).
 In the next semester, I want to fix all the mistakes that I made in the last presentation and make the presentation better. I don't think I can make it perfect but I want to try. Also, next semester I want to look at other classmates' blogs so that I can steal some techniques and improve my writing.

9/30 Reflection

Today Mr. Paterson introduces us to a tool that shows us if our choices of color are color-blind friendly. I never thought of the color choices that deeply. I knew that some combinations of colors are hard to see but just for normal people. When we checked our site, there wasn’t that much to fix but I learned that there are choices that normal people can’t notice.  Today the class was supposed to start the presentations but we were given more time. I hope that we can do a better presentation than the last one.

    Today in class, we were introduced to the world-systems theory. This theory was developed by Immanuel Wallerstein. Mr. Paterson showed us a graph with Kondratiev waves, when the graph goes up the monopoly of the technology and when it goes down the monopoly ends. This suggests that the world is divided into 3 countries, ①core countries, ②semi-periphery countries, and ③periphery countries. It argues that technology gets passed down through generations; rich countries get to use the new high-tech stuff first and when they are done with it, the poorer countries get to use it, when it's not high-tech anymore. The richer countries don't like it when other countries infringe on their monopoly and they try to come into the "core countries". They don't like sharing so it's very rare for semi-periphery countries to bump up to the core countries.       Today Mr. Paterson told us about the compare and contrast essay paper that we are going to turn in for this semester. When I was first informed that we didn't need to read our book like we did last semester for the first time I was very relieved. When I read books for assignments I have to constantly leave my antenna out on things like symbolism, tone, the author's thoughts, etc and it doesn't let me enjoy the book. The book becomes a pain when I have to think constantly about something else than the plot itself. I'm also relieved that we won't need a bibliography in this essay. This would save me time since I won't need to put articles from google scholar that I used hours to find. We just had a research assignment, and f inding reliable sources are very difficult. But since I had Zotero, it saves me a lot of time compared to the students who don't have it.      We decided to film our video this weekend. I hope we get enough footage to make the video...
