6/17 Reflection

 Today at the beginning of the class Mr. Paterson suddenly told us that the presentation was tomorrow. I was sure that the presentation was supposed to be next Monday but since the teacher was saying I panicked. I thought I wasn't ready at all. I wasn't able to practice much in our group. I didn't adjust my presentation to be about four minutes long. I wasn't ready at all. Then Mr. Paterson told us that he was testing us. He said that people who panicked are not ready, they need more practice.
 Our slides were almost finished, we only had to put the survey results and the video. The survey results will be inputted by Friday. I used iMovie to edit the video we took last week. I fast forwarded the places we walked. My job was to put that video in the slide. I first used YouTube to try to put in the video in the slides but people who logged in with other accounts could not see it. I'm planning to use Google Drive to input it.
 I realized again that practice pays off in presentations after getting tricked by Mr. Paterson. I thought that since it is a group presentation we have to check our schedules and have to have meetings frequently. Although it takes effort to adjust our schedule to have meetings, I like group presentations. I like group presentations because we are not doing the presentation alone. If we have something that we are unsure about we can ask our group mates. Also, if something wrong like you forgot what to say, group mates can cover for me.

Today Mr. Paterson introduces us to a tool that shows us if our choices of color are color-blind friendly. I never thought of the color choices that deeply. I knew that some combinations of colors are hard to see but just for normal people. When we checked our site, there wasn’t that much to fix but I learned that there are choices that normal people can’t notice.  Today the class was supposed to start the presentations but we were given more time. I hope that we can do a better presentation than the last one.

2021/10/12

    Today in class, we were introduced to the world-systems theory. This theory was developed by Immanuel Wallerstein. Mr. Paterson showed us a graph with Kondratiev waves, when the graph goes up the monopoly of the technology and when it goes down the monopoly ends. This suggests that the world is divided into 3 countries, ①core countries, ②semi-periphery countries, and ③periphery countries. It argues that technology gets passed down through generations; rich countries get to use the new high-tech stuff first and when they are done with it, the poorer countries get to use it, when it's not high-tech anymore. The richer countries don't like it when other countries infringe on their monopoly and they try to come into the "core countries". They don't like sharing so it's very rare for semi-periphery countries to bump up to the core countries.       Today Mr. Paterson told us about the compare and contrast essay paper that we are going to turn in for this semester. When I was first informed that we didn't need to read our book like we did last semester for the first time I was very relieved. When I read books for assignments I have to constantly leave my antenna out on things like symbolism, tone, the author's thoughts, etc and it doesn't let me enjoy the book. The book becomes a pain when I have to think constantly about something else than the plot itself. I'm also relieved that we won't need a bibliography in this essay. This would save me time since I won't need to put articles from google scholar that I used hours to find. We just had a research assignment, and f inding reliable sources are very difficult. But since I had Zotero, it saves me a lot of time compared to the students who don't have it.      We decided to film our video this weekend. I hope we get enough footage to make the video...
